ku.oc.liamtoh@esuohaidnitsew(01278) 452533
The building was constructed in 1936 but there had been a pub on the site for many years previously in various guises. The pub name is derived from the days when Bridgwater was a bustling port and the site is originally believed to have been owned by a merchant with the West India Trading Company, whose ships delivered goods to the quayside in the town centre. West India House boasts a fully-equipped skittle alley/function room complete with dedicated bar. There is also a large, attractive beer garden to the rear with scenic views over countryside. For a quiet drink in cosy surroundings there is the lounge bar complete with open log fire and for a more vibrant atmosphere then there is the saloon bar which has been extended and refurbished with modern decor. Both bars have large flatscreen televisions for screening major live sporting events. There is also a high-end jukebox in the Saloon bar packed with the perfect mix of old classics and the latest tracks plus a games machine and dartboard. Guest beersare often from Cheddar Ales, Twisted Oak as well as St Austell, Exmoor Ales ans Quantock Brewery. Good pub food avaialable - please check times above and website.

This is a good country inn, open plan with a bar in the centre of the pub. There is an open fireplace with comfortable seating and another food bar behind which is a pizza oven with the pub specialises in a range of pizzas that can be found on the menu. To the left of the bar is another seating area with some leather chairs and sofas and there is another fireplace with a rather splendid ornate and renovated multi fuel burner. If you continue further round to the left there is another seating/dining area which could also be described as a snug. Throughout the pub can be found some interesting items on the walls such as a factory clocking in machine and a previous pub sign. Ales are from the St Austell and Otter breweries and for the craft beer enthusiast you can purchase Beavertown cans. There is a good wine list and an assortment of gins. The real cider is made locally. N.B. Sunday dining from 3.00pm through to 9.00pm is restricted to the Pizza menu.

The guest beers are normally sourced locally and you may find a bigger selection at weekends than during the week due to turnover. Spacious Free House with large car park and beer garden on the A30 / A357 cross roads (traffic lights). Attractive bar area, and overall has a small country-pub feel but with room to cater for the larger parties, which they do comfortably. Did Sir Walter really smoke tobacco here? Unknown; but he did spend time at Sherborne Castle just a few miles away. The much-lamented Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway ran past just a couple hundred yards East, and in fact the first meeting of the directors was held here in October 1862. Nevertheless an excellent pub with efficient and friendly staff, and up to four ales. Breakfast served 7.30 to 10.30 every day.

It is commonly supposed that the name 'Tippling Philosopher' may be apportioned to Robert Boyle, of Boyle's Law fame, who held court in the alehouse. The name was changed to the Kings' Head to celebrate the visit of George III in 1804, even though the inn was still called "The Tipplers" in some circles. Judge Jefferys was known to have used the dining room on several occasions. In 1927 the modern skittle alley and function room were built. The original name was put back into place in July 1998 and the pub continues to serve the local community.

The patio area looks onto the road which can be busy at times, but plenty of chairs with large umbrellas can make outside dining quite pleasant. In addition to two real ales and local cider there is an extensive wine and spirits list. This cosy three roomed pub has built a strong reputation with real ale enthusiasts for Windy Brewery ales brewed on site in the purpose built building to the rear. Owners Ruth and Colin found the inclination to form a true Brew Pub in Somerset and named the brewery after the very windy weather problems encountered by the builders and even today name all their brews after the wind and weather. Opened on 30th August 2016 this new Wetherspoon is named after the famous Duke of Wellington. The building has, at very great expense, been massively rebuilt from the Wellington Town Hall which also previously had a Rex Cinema on the upper floors. The building was in a very dilapidated state and needed some considerable work to achieve the finish that we see today. The upper floor has been opened out to reveal a magnificent brick wall and wooden carved roof. A visit just for the architectural effects is worth the effort in addition to the usual Menu and Real Ale choices which will feature local breweries. There is no car park and you will need to use local municipal car parking. The nearest is west of the traffic lights towards Exeter and can be found on the right, between Fore Street & North Street.
